UFC 123 lineup signifies passing of the torch to the prospects
With MMA fighters coming from all corners of the world, the UFC isn't short on candidates to fill its roster. That means, the guys who have UFC contracts are fighting for their spot in the pecking order everytime out. A staple of UFC pay-per-view cards for the last three years, Keith Jardine was sent packing earlier this year. And there's now a quicker hook than ever when it comes to the guys who succeeded on "The Ultimate Fighter". TUF 8 champ Efrain Escudero was just dumped by the promotion. There's not one member of the TUF 8 lightweight still fighting for the promotion (George Roop is with the WEC). With that, it also means that you can rise to prominence just as quickly. Just take a look at the card at UFC 123 as an example.
Less than 14 months ago, Phil Davis (7-0, 3-0 UFC) was fighting for something called the UCFC. Now he's on the PPV portion of the card in Detroit facing Tim Boestch. So are George Sotiropoulos and Gerald Harris. Meanwhile former title contenders like Karo Parisyan and Tyson Griffin are fighting in the dark matches.
Parisyan's issues are well-documented. Battling addiction and mental issues, Parisyan (19-5, 9-3 UFC) backed out of several UFC fights at the last minute. It prompted Dana White to flip out, fire Parisyan and say he'd never fight for the promotion again. Parisyan, 28, seems to have gotten his act together and he'll make his return against fellow old-timer Dennis Hallman. The Armenian has to be thrilled to be back in action after killing time on Jay Glazer's MMA videos with Fox Sports. Remember when Griffin lost a narrow decision against Sean Sherk at UFC 90? A win in that fight could've changed his career. Instead, the former lightweight title contender has gone in the other direction going just 2-2. He's coming off a vicious knockout at the hands of Takanori Gomi. Now it doesn't get much more humbling for Griffin (14-4, 7-4 UFC) open the 11-fight card in Detroit against Nik Lentz.
There's certainly hope for both Griffin and Parisyan. Look at guys like Harris and Sotiropoulos. Harris (17-2, 3-0 UFC) lost early during TUF 7. He wasn't invited back for another fight with the promotion. He hit the minors and put together a six-fight win streak. Then on the weekend of UFC 106, Harris pulled out all the stops calling White during an appearance on MMA Junkie radio to beg for a job. White said, "call the office on Monday" and now three wins later Harris is on a PPV. Maybe Harris' restraint after his slam of Dave Branch at UFC 117 scored him points as well. Check out UFC matchmaker Joe Silva in the background screaming for Harris to stop.
Sotiropoulos seemed to have suffered the same fate as Harris after losing in the semifinals of TUF 6. Injuries and multiple changes to his training camps saw him fight just once in 21 months. Sotiropoulos (13-2, 6-0 UFC) has ripped off four wins in 14 months and now he gets fellow prospect Joe Lauzon during the PPV portion of the card.
With big wins at UFC 123, Harris, Sotiropoulos and Davis could find themselves in the running for huge fights in the next six months. Griffin and Parisyan are simply looking to survive at this point. But you never know what can happen. Twelve months from now we could be talking about Griffin and Parisyan as the hot shots. That's the beauty of the fight game. Ultimately, you control your own destiny.

Michael Jackson's Nephew Austin Brown Releases First Single
'I can't help where I come from, but I love where I come from, so I just do music and I create,' Austin Brown says.
By Steven RobertsThe name Austin Brown may not ring any bells, but he is the youngest son of Rebbie "Centipede" Jackson, and, of course, the nephew of the late Michael Jackson. Brown, a talented and versatile singer, songwriter, producer and dancer, is ready to carry on the Jackson family business for the next generation. But he isn't necessarily looking to live off the family's fame.
"Music is in my heart," Brown said. "It's what I love to do. I can't help where I come from, but I love where I come from, so I just do music and I create."
Brown said he grew up listening to everything from Boyz II Men and George Michael to the Beatles. And while such a diverse musical taste isn't uncommon with the iPod generation of today, the singer said he loved to sit around and dissect what makes each artist special. He'd listen and wonder what about the Beatles inspired Brian Wilson's (of the Beach Boys) work, which in turn inspired the Beatles.
Brown also loves to perform, which he said started when his mom first took him onstage. "She was doing a show in Japan and I was about 3," said Brown. "When I first looked up, there was all of these things onstage — gargoyles and all this weird stuff at the club. And I got scared and kind of ran off, but I paused when I ran off. So my mom tried it again the next day, and I danced my heart off after that."
Some 20 years later, Brown has teamed up with super-producer Rodney Jerkins and is set to release his debut album, 85. The title represents what Brown has learned from music throughout his life.
"He had the vision," explained Jerkins. "He said, 'It's going to be called 85.' Why 85? 'Because that was the year I was born and in '85 this artist came out, and the music sounded like this. We've got to be inspired by this.' The whole thing we kept trying to do was create a sound that makes you want to dance and feel good."
The album's first single, "Target Practice," debuted Monday on Brown's website, and the video will follow. Brown said it doesn't look anything short of stunning.
"It was directed by a man by the name of Tom DeSanto, who is the producer of 'Transformers' and 'X-Men,' and it was such a blessing to get him for my first video," he said.
"He's downplaying it for me," Jerkins said. "Your first video and you've got the producer of 'Transformers'? How did you get him from the movie world? Most people go from making music videos to the movie world. He's coming from the movie world to the video world."

Britney Spears' 'Me Against The Music': 'Glee' Vs. The Original
Watch Brittany and Santana's version side-by-side with Britney and Madonna's.

Heather Morris and Britney Spears on the set of "Glee"
Photo: FacebookHeather Morris, who plays hilariously ditzy cheerleader Brittany on "Glee," got to channel her sort-of namesake on Tuesday night's "Britney/Brittany" episode. And the professional-dancer-turned-actress didn't disappoint as she re-enacted Spears' videos for "Toxic," "Slave 4 U" and "Me Against the Music." She tackled all of them with her spectacular dance skills and a pretty killer singing voice.
The anesthesia-induced dream sequences followed one of Brittany's stellar reveals: "My name is also Britney Spears. Brittany S. Pierce. I've lived my entire life in Britney Spears' shadow." Well, on Tuesday night she stepped out of her shadow.
Of all the video reinterpretations in the episode, the Madonna/Britney team-up, which saw Santana playing Madge and Brittany playing you guessed it, paid homage to the original 2003 video, directed by Paul Hunter. Aside from a few artistic tweaks in the "Glee" version's choreography, Morris and company do the original justice.
"The 'Me Against the Music' montage, it's literally copied exactly from the video, the shots and looks, but the choreography is made so much more for a dancer — none of it is from the video," Morris told New York magazine about the "Glee" version. "You just have to wait to see it. It's insane."
Hunter spoke to MTV News last year about his original concept for Britney's "Music" video. "I try to play opposites, when you have Britney in dark and Madonna in white," he said. "And then we see them kind of dance around the bed .. and you think they're gonna get on top of each other and do something crazy."

Nokia N8 review
The first time Nokia's N8-00 popped up on our radar was way back in early February of this year. On that chilly, misty morning, we learned of a mythical being capable of shooting 12 megapixel stills, recording 720p video, outputting via HDMI, and -- most importantly -- ushering in the promised Symbian^3 touch revolution. It's been a long road of leaks, teasers, hands-ons, and previews since then, but at long last, the legend of the N8 has become a purchasable commodity. All the early specs have survived, including the 3.5-inch AMOLED display, but the key question today, as it was at the beginning, relates to that all-new software within: does Symbian^3 succeed in elevating Nokia's touchscreen experience or does it drag down an otherwise stellar combination of high-end parts? For that verdict and much, much more, join us after the break.Continue reading Nokia N8 review
